Project 4

Gardening Education and Volunteer Opportunities

The project tackles the challenge of climate change apathy by developing an app designed to engage and empower individuals to contribute positively to their local ecosystem. The app targets those interested in environmental action but unsure where to start, including those feeling isolated in their sustainability efforts. It achieves its goals by offering a platform for users to track and share their environmental actions, connect with community partners for volunteering, access local gardens and farms, and stay informed on climate issues both locally and globally. This approach not only educates and engages users in sustainability practices but also fosters a sense of community and personal reward.

Key Objective

Climate change can feel like an overwhelming problem, which can often lead to information overload and apathy. How can we help engage individuals in their local community and empower them to make an impact on their local ecosystem and feel rewarded for their efforts?

Improve people's awareness of climate change and get some motivation for them.

Resident 1

"The sustainable development of society and environmental change are always closely related, and a worse environment always brings many bad effects. Personally, I want to live in a sustainable environment."

"Government and social media campaigns play an essential role in making environmental awareness a habit and thus contributing to the sustainability of our society."

Resident 2

"I don’t do much on sustainability, really. Back home, I had a hybrid car, but that had very little to do with sustainability, mostly to do with fuel savings."

"I don’t know if there are any summits happening, and I wouldn’t know how to go there or if I could find the time to go there, and I don’t know how much it would cost."

Resident 3

"I know there is huge problem on sustainability. But I don't know how to do and what to do. Also, I think I need the motivation."

  • Emphasize the importance of quickly showing users their impact to sustain motivation and ensure they feel their efforts are making a difference.

  • Utilize social features and promote in-person interactions to build community and enhance user engagement.

  •  Implement strategies to prevent information overload and misinformation, thereby retaining user trust and encouraging continued engagement by making the process more manageable and meaningful.
